The shape of this bowl is defined by its apparent irregularity, reflecting a gesture deliberately freed from the constraints of perfect symmetry. As a celebration of imperfection as an aesthetic value, the bowl highlights the spontaneity of the gesture and the inherent unpredictability of the material. This approach gives the piece a tactile and emotional dimension, inviting direct interaction with the object.
FUNCTIONAL
This generously shaped bowl has a large capacity, making it suitable for preparing tea directly within it, such as matcha (whisked tea) or other teas with the help of an infuser.
UNIQUE
This bowl is a one-of-a-kind piece, meaning no two are exactly identical. Made of porcelain and fired at a high temperature of 1300°C, it is delicately handcrafted on a potter’s wheel. The bowl features a glossy transparent glaze on the inside, while the exterior is raw porcelain. The result is a play between light, shadow, and the translucency of porcelain.
PICTORIAL
Though free of decoration, the surface is nonetheless pictorial. The textured finish, achieved by stretching a slab of porcelain, creates a surface dotted with repetitive patterns reminiscent of “imprints.”
SENSORY
Our senses are awakened through personal experience, particularly touch. Beyond its visual appeal, the bowl’s tactile surface tells the story of its creation. The contrast between the turned base and the textured raw porcelain wall alternates between smoothness and roughness.
DURABLE
Thanks to the composition of the inner glaze and the hardness of porcelain, this ceramic piece is food-safe. It is completely waterproof, non-porous, and resistant to dishwasher and microwave use. Only a sudden and forceful impact might damage it.
Over time, tannin-rich beverages like coffee or certain teas may naturally leave a patina on the interior surface. Some may choose to preserve this patina, while others can remove it using baking soda.
